The Chipotle Chicken Panini FAQ

UPDATE: September 9th, 2016 - The new Chipotle Chicken Avocado Melt is awful! When will the original chipotle chicken panini return?

I received this from Panera Bread Customer Care:

“We don’t like goodbyes either, but our chipotle chicken panini has left the menu and will not be back. The new Chipotle Chicken Avocado Melt is not a replacement for that sandwich, it is part of are Fall menu change along with several other items. Thanks for the valuable feedback.”

Short. Curt. Full of anger. That’s how they reply to their customers. I, for one, will not stand for this.

Why did Panera get rid of the Chipotle Chicken Panini?

I got this response from Panera Bread Customer Care:

“I’m sorry our recent menu refresh has left you disappointed. It’s great to hear that you are such a big fan of our Chipotle Chicken Panini, but I understand that it’s frustrating when your favorite menu item goes away.

We want your visit to Panera Bread to be warm and relaxing with friendly service and deliciously handcrafted food you can enjoy and feel good about. To keep our menu fresh and inviting we regularly introduce new items, such as our new Chicken, Ham & Swiss Flatbread, and rotate a few featured and seasonal products.

The good news is that our Chipotle Chicken Panini may return to our menu in the future. In the meantime, I hope you will give some other delicious options a try! My favorite is our new Roasted Turkey, Apple & Cheddar Sandwich, and I would love to know what you think.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. I hope you’ll visit again soon and give us another chance to share the Panera warmth.”

Will I visit again soon and give them another chance to share the Panera warmth?

What is the purpose of this website?

To get enough traffic that Panera has to bring back the Chipotle Chicken Panini permanently. They said that it is now a seasonal item and that it may return in the future, but they didn’t offer any conclusive answers.

What can we do?

You can email Panera using this link. Hopefully if they receive enough feedback about the Chipotle Chicken Panini and the French Onion Soup, they will change their minds about this “menu refresh.”

Is there a number I can call? I need to let out my frustration vocally

You can call customer service at this number 1 (855) 372-6372! Let ’em have it!

This is a little crazy, to make a website about a sandwich.

Not just any sandwich, friend.

The Chipotle Chicken Panini has returned?

What we know so far:

  1. They have never tweeted a reply to anyone who tweeted them with a link to this website… And now that the sandwich is supposedly back, they are replying to tweets about the sandwich… but ignoring all the tweets about the sandwich that contains a link to this website… One can’t help but wonder why…
  2. According to the animated GIF that they are posting, this new sandwich looks nothing like a true Chipotle Chicken Panini. This imposter appears to be on ciabatta bread instead of French bread. The ingredient appear to be chicken, red peppers, avocado, and kale. Update September 8th: On the Panera website, they list this sandwich as “Smoked, pulled chicken raised without antibiotics, smoked Gouda, fresh avocado and cilantro, zesty sweet Peppadew™ piquant peppers and chipotle mayo on Black Pepper Focaccia.” Which is as far from a true Chipotle Chicken Panini as you can get! A true Chipotle Chicken Panini, as real Chipotle Chicken Panini fans know, has chicken, tomatoes, bacon, and cheddar cheese, with chipotle sauce on French bread.
  3. Keep in mind, it is possible they are introducing a sandwich called the Chipotle Chicken Panini, without any of the same ingredients, just to try to reclaim the Chipotle Chicken Panini name.
  4. One might ask: Reclaim the name from whom?

In conclusion, the Chipotle Chicken Avocado Melt is disgusting

So, to sum up what we’ve theorized: Panera has declined to utilize this website as a marketing tool to reintroduce the sandwich, the chipotle chicken avocado melt in the GIF looks nothing like a true Chipotle Chicken Panini, and this website happens to own some prime search engine real estate.

Is it possible that Panera is only introducing a sandwich named the chipotle chicken, that is not actually the chipotle chicken panini, just to stop us? To sabotage us?

Just a thought. It makes you wonder, though, doesn’t it? Also, it’s a little strange that they were tweeting people about the return of the sandwich, then when questioned, they said, “The new Chipotle Chicken Avocado Melt is not a replacement…”

Why do you lie to your customers, @panerabread? The real Chipotle Chicken Panini is still gone! Click To Tweet

Why tell people the sandwich is back, when they admit that it isn’t actually back?

Hold your ground! Hold your ground!

I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the sandwiches of men fail, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day.

An hour of wolves and poor search volume, when the sandwiches of men come crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, scream at this number 1 (855) 372-6372, or at least wear a shirt…

We're as mad as hell!

Chipotle Chicken Panini disappointment by U.S. state

The Chipotle Chicken Panini anger, disappointment, and betrayal website has been live for just over a month now. Tears have been shed, glass ornaments have been shattered, and Panera has lost hundreds of dollars in revenue from just our team here at the offices of Bring Back the Chipotle Chicken Panini at Panera.

But it might not be enough. Although most of us are in the United States of America, we are only united under the red white and blue colors that we all bleed, and not the cheddar cheese, chipotle sauce, chicken, bacon, tomato, and French bread sandwiches that we all eat. Take a closer look at the graphic below, courtesy of Google Analytics.

As you can see, the colors on this map of the Unites States range from dark blue to gray. These colors illustrate the amount of traffic this website gets from different states. The darker the blue, the heavier the traffic.

So here are the states in order from most traffic to this site to least. For a frame of reference, this was first uploaded on November 4th, 2015.

  1. New York
  2. Florida
  3. Pennsylvania
  4. California
  5. Massachusetts
  6. Ohio
  7. Virginia
  8. Illinois
  9. New Jersey
  10. District of Columbia

And the states with no traffic to this website are listed below:

  • Idaho
  • Montana
  • North Dakota
  • South Dakota
  • Wyoming
  • Utah
  • Nevada
  • New Mexico
  • Arkansas
  • Alaska
  • Hawaii

What does this mean? Well, take a look at this:

This map, courtesy of Google Maps, has marked all the locations of Panera franchises in red dots. As you can ascertain from both maps, there is a positive correlation between people being upset about the removal of the Chipotle Chicken Panini from Panera restaurants, and the actual existence of Panera franchises in that state.

Coincidence? You decide!

About bringing back the Chipotle Chicken Panini

In the fall of 2015 the unthinkable happened… As part of an effort to become healthier, Panera got rid of some of its greatest menu items, including the Chipotle Chicken Panini and the French Onion Soup. The purpose of this website might simply be to remember a time when people could go to a common franchise and order a sandwich or a hot bread bowl of soup without being ostracized for breaking the status quo. But we here at the offices of Bring Back the Chipotle Chicken Panini at Panera strive for more.

We are writers and businessmen and freelancers, and since 2012 we have been doing our work almost exclusively at Panera. And at least three times a week for almost four years we have driven to Panera and ordered the same thing: a medium cup of coffee, and a Chipotle Chicken Panini.

But those days are lost and gone in the ruins of a new world that puts healthiness above happiness. And we here at the offices of Bring Back the Chipotle Chicken Panini at Panera think that’s wrong. We have spent over $2,000 dollars investing in the future of the Chipotle Chicken Panini. We have written over 200,000 words fueled solely by the Chipotle Chicken Panini. We have sold those words to hundreds of people, resulting in profits of over ten dollars. The publishing industry is difficult as is – but when will the blows stop coming? We had but one last haven, known as the Era of Bread. But now that era has come and gone. Into dust.

First they take away the Chipotle Chicken Panini and the French Onion Soup, but then what next? Where does it stop? Where will we who work from laptops in coffee shops go for salvation? The era has come and gone, but perhaps, with some effort, it will not be forgotten. If we can save the Chipotle Chicken Panini, perhaps we can also save the written word. Maybe we can fight off the day when coffee shops are no more – when writers are forced into dark rooms, to stare out windows where pedestrians drink pureed wheatgrass smoothies and crush flowers with the wheels of their Segways.

But for now, that’s all but a dream. And here’s to the Chipotle Chicken Panini, the sandwich that kept the dream alive for a moment of time.
